The weekly theme was Optimism and after we made our introductions I briefly talked about the three basic Artist Way tools. We discussed the Morning pages, the Artist walk and the artist date. Because of the size of the group we broke into two groups to do the two diving rods. Then at half time we had be ideas y boat as and switched up the groups. We wrapped up at around 2 p.m. And some people stayed behind to make some prayer flags from cotton or burlap.
Today I registered an Artist Way blog on Wordpress. It is called ajijicartistway.wordpress.com and the password is fairly obvious and can be obtained by contacting me.
Started Spanish classes this afternoon and am now getting ready for a craft sale at Lake Chapala Society on Sarurday morning. Will be selling blank cards and matchboxes featuring photographs from the Copper Canyon area here in Mexico. Have also been knitting up a storm making knitted coton dishcloths. My morning pages are getting easier even if what I'm writing is not profound but that's probably the point anyway. Considering the NoWriMo novel writing challenge. Started last year but gave up the ghost in the first week. Without the distraction of television and Internet perhaps it could happen!Digital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-88944040874075769342012-10-28T13:27:00.001-07:002012-10-28T13:27:55.708-07:00Domingo News and ViewsAm on location at Black Coffee at Centro Laguna enjoying a coffee and the extra hour that we got back last night at 2 a.m. Very mellow music next door from a bilingual balladeer. Well, after all that excitement of Thrill the World Ajijic it's time to get down to business to prepare for the upcoming Finding Water group that will start in my apartment on Donato Guerra on November 7th. Lots to do, copy prepare and organize so the next week will be very busy. About a dozen participants have signed up to take the program and possibly do some mixed media projects along the way. First project is prayer flags and I've acquired a number of burlap coffee sacks from my favourite coffee place in the plaza, Cafe Grano.Digital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-5689511034458643232012-10-28T13:20:00.001-07:002012-10-28T13:20:03.236-07:00Thrill the World in the Plaza October 27 th, 2012Well, the YouTube video is up and OMG I can be spotted along with all the other zombies in the plaza! I had a wonderful if brief stay in Penticton, canned nine different things, got my hair foiled and cut and Mavrik, my beloved Mustang convertible detailed and now we are on the brink of the autumn equinox where the day and night is of equal length. I've had a phenomenal summer and now I'm heading into another five months of summer in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico where I spent four joyous months last winter. Then I came back, put my house on the market, sold it after twenty four showings and six offers by five different parties. Im totally loving being an islandgrrl and this summer I volunteered for four diverse festivals from the First annual BBQ Festival downtow, to the Gabriola Island Theatre Festival to the amazing Bumbershoot Festival wrapping up with the Second Annual Fringe Festival. And now I'm off to the Port Theatre once more tonight to hear some groovy ravage music thanks to the the queen of networking, Sheila of Penticton. Big shout out to Ms. S for connecting me with a comp for tonight's show!Digital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-87548916451951829512012-08-23T16:42:00.001-07:002012-08-23T16:42:24.517-07:00As The Summer Winds Down....Well, the Gabriola Theatre Festival has come and gone with nine ferry trips to and fro helping out with the sewing of the backstage black out panels, ticket selling and front of house and now the Nanaimo Fringe Festival is upon us with three front of house gigs followed by a road trip through Washington State to Seattle where the Bumbershoot Arts and Music Festival will be happening. This festival has been on my radar for a while but since it is RIGHT before the first day of school I've just never been able to make it...until now, that is. So I'm off to do three different roles volunteering at this truly fantastic festival and then it's back to the Okanagan Valley for a three day canning-palooza event since I just learned how to can last fall no less after residing in the Peach City for twenty years. So I'll be scouring the garage sales this weekend to get ready to make salsas, chutneys, pickled beets, jams and canned fruit and sauces of all descriptions! Thank once again to Beverley C. for sharing her skilled canning expertise!Digital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-76839091343772800392012-08-14T06:55:00.000-07:002012-08-23T16:43:05.903-07:00Not Another Manic Monday...Started off the week earlier than Usual with a surprise invitation for a birthday breakfast, not mine, at Perkins downtown. Then since I was out and about anyway I went to the twonie drop in card class at Crafty Capers, this scrap booking place on Bowen Road here in Nanaimo. I didn't particularly like the fussy card that was featured so I made the alternate card and also bought 20 blank cards and envelopes that were a bright Mexicana green. Not sure what I will do with them but I'm sure something will come to me. Anyway, my Day 3 mixed media project was a blank card with an embossed flower design and ribbon on it so I'll count this as mixed media. Will need to continue to clear and clean out the guest room / studio so that it's workable on perhaps the next rainy day. Whenever THAT is since this summer has been ever so nice and hot and sunny!Digital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-84993806157096827052012-08-12T10:24:00.002-07:002012-08-12T21:55:27.485-07:00Lazy Sunday and Shadow Box # 2Well, I could have gone to Hazelwood Herb Farm Writers Festival but I elected to stay fairly close to home and keep unpacking, sifting and sorting my significantly downsized worldly effects. Very therapeutic.
This week my goal is to finish various and sundry pieces so that they will 'count' on Labour Day's big reveal. So, for Day One lets go with the Journey shadow box. Seems apropo...also by the end of this week I should have a workable studio! Have taken loads and loads of superfluous stuff that I shouldn't have dragged across the Georgia Strait but for some reason I did and I'm still dealing with it. This is the week for the Gabriola Theatre Festival so it should be a busy week but I'm still gonna work towards having 21 pieces to photograph come Labour Day, September first.

Have started a four week Soul Collage class online as well. Will be posting highlights of this so I can host soul collage studio nights SOB / South of the Border. Just six weeks now and Dios quieter I'll be back in my winter home. Need to locate my Mexican phone and make some calling cards for Film Flam Productions and Luna Azul Enterprises.
Must have had a psychic flash earlier cuz I put the top up on my mustang convertible...good thing I unpacked almost all cardboard boxes on patio. And fortunately I was able to find plastic to tarp the rest.

Started a soul collage online class today. Am gonna parlay it into some studio sessions when I get to Mexico. Have a bigger space this year so I'll have more room to have drop in collage or art journaling to intuitive painting or assemblage classes.Digital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-91105246812659261632012-07-28T12:34:00.000-07:002012-07-28T12:34:02.928-07:00One Month in the Harbour City...Well, it's been a bit of a roller coaster to be sure but I have moved to a more Joanna-friendly place and I've got boxes and bins to unpack and continue the sifting and sorting. OMG. Like where exactly did all this stuff come from and why oh why did I think it important enough to think that I had to move it across the Georgia Strait anyway? And yes, it is a rhetorical question...

Oh well...In any case for Week Four I returned from Victoria inspired and energized and ready to create, create, create! Nick Bantock is quite a character and his quirky sense of humour is very dry and British which I enjoy.

On Monday I was on Gabriola Island to help the Theatre Festival folk put together these banners that will block the light in one of the festival tents. Once I get unpacked somewhat anyway, I'll sign up for some more shifts to help out sell tickets and other jobs that they need volunteers for.

Due to my across city move I did not get to the Library Book Club or the Harbour City Newcomers BBQ. But now that I'm in my REAL home and can cut my expenses because it's a place where I actually want to prepare meals and hang out in I can organize my life and monthly calendar much better. Oh happy day....Amazing that 20 years of being in the Okanagan is so quickly fading into the ether of my memory. I'm finally exactly WHERE I'm supposed to be at last!Digital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-27125806205758099112012-07-28T12:26:00.003-07:002012-07-28T12:26:39.805-07:00Fearless Paintinghttp://www.dirtyfootprints-studio.com/2011/07/fearless-painting-crash-course.htmlDigital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-30791844930363384822012-07-25T08:40:00.001-07:002012-07-25T08:40:51.823-07:00Fearless Painting! It's truly amazing what's out there on the net that just 'drifts' into your consciousness. Where to start since every day is a gift?

Some highlights include find a better light filled place to live, volunteering at the first ever Nanaimo BBQ festival earning my first day glo green t shirt. I also dropped in at the Harbour City Newcomer coffee time at Serious Coffee at Piper Bay/Beach, saw Savages and the Most Exotic Marigold Hotel and generally had a good time bombing around in Mavrik, my 2002 Mustang convertible. I finished reading 'Bride of New France' in anticipation of next Thursday's Nanaimo Library Book Club gathering and am now reading 'The Matchstick Men' about a couple of grifters. This book was made into a movie starring on of my all time fave actors, Nicholas Gage. You can love him (I do.) or loathe him (Many do.) but no one anywhere can say that he is boring...like ever. He has made some dubious choices in films but overall no one can play 'tortured' like Nick. Bring Out the Dead comes to mind with Nick as a tortured ambulance driver who is haunted by a young girl that he was not able to save.

I also attended this fantastico collage/assemblage workshop called the Trickster's Tale in Victoria with Nick Bantock of Griffin and Sabine fame. Very inspiring and educational and I'm quite anxious to set up a proper studio to keep/start working on all kinds of fabulous mixed media and painting projects!
you have recently experienced settles into the background now, allowing
you to be more comfortable in your own skin. Use your time to tackle a

On May 31rst, I got an offer on my house, the subjects cleared on June 11th, three months less a day since I listed and the possession date was June 19th and since then I've kind of been a homeless bag lady albeit one with a 2002 Mustang convertible loaded to the hilt with stuff bound for my new life in Nanaimo. I also am now also the proud owner of a white IPad 2 that fits right inside the charming carrying case that I got at an upscale mall in Guadaljara last winter so things are coming together quite nicely now after a WHOLE month of upheaval, frenetic activity and yes, chaos and over the top anxiety and stress with an across the Georgia Strait move. But right now I'm safely escounced in a cut rate no-tell motel in Hope, B.C. listening to the rain outside my room as I give thanks for getting me here safely after a few wrong exits and turns on a rain slicked, foggy highway. OMG, the highway conditions are just truly ugly tonight and my night vision is not that great anyway. But I AM safe and my worldly possessions are securely stashed in Mavrik until tomorrow's daybreak when I'll proceed to Horseshoe Bay to board the ferry to my new life as an islandgrrl.
I found this very apt definition of what my present life feels like at the moment. I am neither 'here' or 'there' yet...a free agent once more...

I was considering Luna Azul Mixed Media for my new calling card but today the phrase 'Betixt & Between' seems much more appropriate as I head towards my new life on Vancouver Island and my new life not being a home owner/landlord/full time teacher/girlfriend. Hmmm, as nature generally abhors a vacuum I do want to be open to new opportunities and experiences as I create my new islandgrrl life in Nanaimo! So, am I truly betwixt and between my life in the Okanagan Valley and my life in Nanaimo? Yes. And am I truly betwixt and between my Canadian life on Vancouver Island in the Harbour City of Nanaimo and my snowbird life in Upper Ajijic for five months (or so) starting October? Si.
Still on location Wednesday night packing the last of the boxes to be loaded ON the truck in the morning for the journey across the Georgia Strait to my new life as an islandgrrl. Was at the lawyer's office today signing the papers for the dispursement of the money to the credit union to pay off the mortgage and to ME as reward for surviving almost 17 years in an old house in the heart of downtown Penticton,. It's truly a miracle, really...but I did and I'm gonna take some equity out of this house and put it in the bank to fund my retirement years. A new day dawns...Digital Sketch/Idea Bookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11435258187320518370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238909318970763844.post-58249866232583086642012-06-12T08:14:00.001-07:002012-06-12T08:16:18.794-07:00Assembly of Text in Vancouver on Main Streethttp://assemblyoftext.com/our_store

Well, this is quite a find for this retrogrrl. A store that celebrates letter writing and typewriters and all things text. It's a shop on Main Street in Vancouver owned and operated by a couple of Emily Carr graduates. Note to self: Once relocated on the coast and ready for aday trip in Vancouver do spend a day on Main Street and go there on the day they write letters and you can use vintage typewriters to send out change of address cards! Also, I would think it is a good place to meet and mingle with fellow retro-people...like wow. It's always good to find where members of your 'tribe' hang out!
